Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy

April 23rd, 2010

I just returned from a four day intensive training on Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFT).  Very exciting work! This model is based in attachment theory and works with couples to help them reconnect on an emotional level.

Welcome 2010

January 31st, 2010

A new year.  A new decade.  What kind of changes are you hoping to make in your life? I know it is easy to become cynical or doubtful about new year’s resolutions- whether you will stick with them, whether you will make changes that last.  I think, however, it is always a useful process to sit down and examine where you are at, to think about your life and identify places that don’t match your values or hopes as well as the areas where you feel proud and happy.  Setting new goals, whether you reach them this year or not, is a good reminder of what you value, of what is most important to you in your life.  If your resolutions do not act as a reminder of what is important take them a step deeper.  Beneath every weight loss goal there is a deeper desire- explore what weight loss would mean for your life.  Beneath work goals and travel hopes there are bigger stories of what kind of person you are or want to be.  Often identifying the meaning, the intention, behind your resolutions will help you keep at them.
